Hungarian Passports
Hungary issues biometric passports in line with EU standards. The passport chip stores the holder's photograph, signature, and fingerprints. All applications must be submitted in person — biometric data cannot be collected remotely.
Applying for a Passport
Hungarian citizens living in this representation's jurisdiction may apply for a new or renewed passport at the Embassy of Hungary, Washington, DC. An appointment is required. Processing time varies and emergency passports are available.
What to Bring
During the appointment confirmation, please verify what documentation to bring. It may include:
- Current or expired passport (or birth certificate if applying for the first time)
- Completed application form
- Proof of Hungarian citizenship
- Applicable fee
Mobile Consular Days
The Embassy of Hungary may organize Mobile Consular Days to bring consular services closer to Hungarian communities that live in its jurisdiction. Please inquire with the Honorary Consulate of Hungary or the Embassy of Hungary for any planned visits in your area.
