Military Relations
Hungary and the United States are NATO allies, and their military relationship has developed steadily since Hungary's accession to the Alliance in 1999.
Areas of Cooperation
- Joint training and exercises — Hungarian and U.S. forces participate in NATO-led exercises and bilateral training programmes
- Education — Exchange programmes under the International Military Education and Training (IMET) initiative support officer and NCO development
- Interoperability — Technical cooperation ensures Hungarian forces can operate seamlessly with U.S. and NATO partners
- Deployed operations — Hungary has contributed to NATO-led missions alongside U.S. forces
Defence Modernization
Hungary has committed to meeting NATO's 2% GDP defence spending target and is undergoing a significant military modernization programme, including procurement of advanced Western equipment that strengthens interoperability with U.S. forces.
